Story

For many years Angel Lopez lived in Los Angeles with her husband and two children. Her parents also lived close by, and Angel was happy. By profession, she was studying to be a nurse while raising her children. Her husband, Antonio, was 12-years older, of Spanish background and a master of Shorinji Kempo. He was a pacifist, peacefully teaching Shorinji Kempo to angry high schoolers as a way of teaching them to improve themselves. He also taught Angel and their two children, Samuel and Tina.

What Antonio had not told her was that he had once belonged to a cult of Spanish ninja; linked to the criminal organizations of Asia. He had fled them several years before, and managed to destroy his old identity. He thought he had succeeded completely, but his old masters finally tracked him down. In a brutal display of violence and anger, and to send a message to the organization members, Antonio and his family were brutally, ritually tortured and bled. Their tormentors dumped their bodies into the ocean as the final segment of the ritual. Angelina not only suffered horrible physical tortures, but she had been forced to endure the sufferings of her husband and children. She did not blame her husband, for during the process she had come to understand that he had changed, torn completely from his past, and that therefore she and her children were suffering because "The Emerald One" wanted only to instill fear in his underlings. By sheer willpower, Angelina managed to survive being dumped in the sea. She washed up on a small island, where she hid in the forest and river for months while her body healed. When her family had been attacked, their pacifist martial arts had not protected them from the guns and weapons of their attackers, so it would be that Angelina would retaliate with guns and force. She would rain violence and pain upon the Asian criminal organizations until she had personally slain "The Emerald One."

Campaign Role

Angelina is an anti-hero. She ruthlessly and mercilessly fights against Asian criminal organizations on the West Coast of the United States and around the world. Her ultimate goal is the kingpin known as "The Emerald One," whom she believes is a Japanese Yakuza leader. However, she is not sure, and therefore she attacks Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese criminals on her quest for "The Emerald One."

It should be noted that Angelina has never met nor seen "The Emerald One."  She only knows that it was "The Emerald One" who ordered the death of her husband and children, and therefore he should pay. She has collected a lot of rumors and inuendo about "The Emerald One," but hard facts have been as elusive as her prey.

Personality

Angelina is consumed by her hatred of Asian criminals and her passion for revenge. She hates what she has become, and wants to quit very badly. However, she cannot quit until she kills "The Emerald One." Someone once asked her what she would do if someone else killed "The Emerald One," and she replied "I cannot stop until I kill 'The Emerald One' or I die," implying that she would simply continue her vigilante crusade against Asian crime groups.  She does not enjoy killing, per se, and often offers her targets the option to live in exchange for information; those who talk, live, those who fight her, die.

She is dark and brooding, and only rarely smiles. She loves children. She was a devout Catholic before her husbands death (she considered her study of Zen Buddhism to be purely philosophical, not theological).  She still tries to be a good Catholic, although, obviously given her vow and obsession with "The Emerald One," this is often difficult at best.

Abilities

Angelina is a formidable hand-to-hand combatant. However, she really becomes deadly when she can use firearms. She is tough, agile and quick. She has a phenomenal sense of hearing, and has developed a "sixth sense" for trouble. She is almost impossible to surprise, and fears nothing. She has no fear of her own death (she believes it would reunite her with her family), and in some ways this makes her a more frightening opponent.

Battle Tactics

She always offers opponents the chance to surrender or flee.  Tell her what she wants to know, and no one has to die. Unfortunately, she's developed a reputation in the underworld as being a ruthless, bloodthirsty killer and most criminals preemptively start shooting at her, leading to her killing them in self-defense and perpetuating the cycle of her reputation.  She will (usually) dive for cover at the first hint of trouble, often attempting to use confusion so that she can outflank her foes.

Adventure Seed

The PCs are on the trail of a wanted criminal. Angelina learns that this criminal may know something about "The Emerald One". The race is on for the PCs to reach this criminal first. It should be noted that left on her own, Angelina can make a huge dent in the criminal underworld, and therefore some heroes might wish to let her continue.
