Morpheus Unbound  |  Supporting Cast  |  Shadowrun

Andrea is a software programmer in Seattle. She plays her flute in the subway once a week, and is an out-standing musician. She appears in the fiction piece Subway Sonata by Judd Baker and Patric Rogers.

Andrea

A character for SR3.

Age 20, natural looking blue eyes, stringy red hair. 5'7", 120 lbs. fair complexion (she almost never goes out in the sun).

Special Note: For unknown reasons, Andrea's cyberoptic (which are otherwise perfectly good) don't provide her with normal vision. All her vision Target Numbers suffer a +6 modifier in addition to any situation modifiers.

Background:  Andrea was born in the slums. She lived in a three bedroom apartment with her extended family. As soon as she could walk, her siblings and cousins taught her the survival skills of the city.

When she was nine, her grandfather started taking her to the subways with him. There he would play his old beat-up flute, just for the sake of playing. It was there that Andrea learned to play the flute, and learned to enjoy the escape that music could provide. (Andrea's grandfather had contacts in the local gangs, and this allowed them to play without being disturbed.)

When she was twelve, she was introduced to her first computer/cyberdeck. One of her aunts had started dating a decker, calling himself SeerTech, and he moved into the already crowded apartment. Working with him, they discovered that Andrea had a natural talent for computers.

At age 14, she contracted a virus which over the course of a year stole her sight completely. Being poor, they couldn't get her medical attention.

Without telling anyone in her family, her grandfather and Uncle SeerTech (who had since married Andrea's aunt and was now living with them), scrounged up some money and bought her some cybereyes for her 17th birthday. However, for unknown reasons, the eyes didn't completely restore her sight. So, her uncle and grandfather saved again and bought her a datajack for her 18th birthday. Unfortunately, her grandfather fell ill and didn't get to see her 18th birthday (or the datajack). His last gift to her was a new silver flute. The datajack works perfectly, and Andrea has become an accomplished programmer.

Throughout her ordeals, Andrea always looked forward to visiting the subway with her grandfather. Even at her young age, she had become an accomplished flutist, and no matter what her inner frustrations, she can always find release - and escape - through her music.

It was in the subway that she "met" Tommy. Shortly after her grandfather died, she was playing alone in the subway, and some toughs began bothering her. Without warning, the toughs were gone. She couldn't learn anything about her benefactor right away. Later, she learned from Matrix contacts that "some huge elf beat the drek out of two trolls because they 'were disturbing the subway flutist'." The elf also spread word that anyone bothering her would have to deal with him. She couldn't learn much about him, except that he seemed lonely and enjoyed her music.

Six months later, Raymond Curtiss "introduced" himself, and they began playing music together.

Andrea isn't decker in the typical sense, because she doesn't hack into systems or steal anything. She tries to rise above her street upbringing and earn an honest living. She only writes Utility programs and White IC, both of which she distributes under the logo "Silver Flute Software."
