The Right Hand of God?

perspective:  through the eyes of Lieutenent Gorshon Har'kon, of the 347th Light Cavalry of the Jihad.

background:  This takes place parallel to the Sierra story.  While Sierra reveals how terrified people are of the Dullon, this story reveals the other side - how the members of the Jihad worship the Dullon.  They have elevated the Dullon to the status of a god.  The Jihad is manipulated at the top by fanatics and greedy madmen, who view the Dullon as a god which can be exploited.  The Dullon doesn't care so long as the Jihad serves its purpose of destroying the T'laren.

Each time the Dullon must personally enter combat or go on maneuvers, it personally selects two soldiers from among the Jihad to attend to it. These soldiers are each equipped with a unique battlesuit and the most advanced weaponry possible.  While attending the Dullon, these soldiers become "the Right Hand and the Left Hands of the Dullon".  Mystery and superstition surrounds these "Hands".  Those who are chosen are not only sworn to secrecy, but a hypnotic block is telepathically implanted to prevent them from discussing their mission with anyone.  If they survive the mission, they will be given special pins and patches for their uniforms.  Only those who have these patches and pins know what they mean, and they cannot talk about it.  Ever.  It is the armored suits which are viewed as the Hands of the Dullon, and not those who wear them.  Therefore, the myth is perpetuated that the Right and Left Hands are immortal and unkillable, for they will always arise from the dead to again serve the Dullon.  The Dullon personally selects its Hands before each mission, and selects them for its own reasons and own enigmatic purposes.

The Dullon has become a force of nature.  Not so much for its personal power (which is tremendous), but because it is viewed as a god.  Everyone is terrified to stand before it.  It has millions of passionately (fanatically?) loyal followers ready to carry out its smallest whim.

In this tale Lt. Har'kon is the Right Hand of the Dullon.  As the tale unfolds, it appears that the Dullon has chosen Har'kon because his unshakable faith is surpassed only by his intelligence and clear thought.

When God asks you "Why do you follow me?" and suggests that you are a fool for doing so, how do you react?  How strong is your faith?

"Tell me Lieutenent," the Dullon spoke without warning, jarring Har'kon from his rigid thoughts, "why are you doing this?"
