Force Field Technology for GURPS Vehicles, 2d. ed.

By definition, these rules also apply to Robots and Mecha.

Streamlined Force Fields:  Sometimes it is not efficient to add streamlining to a vehicle.  For example, most mecha would look silly with it, and transforming technology is not always appropriate.  However, at TL12, variable force fields introduce the possibility of having force fields which can be shaped to provide the same result as a streamlined hull.  The cost is enormous, but sometimes performance exceeds monetary restrictions.  The force field DR on the vehicles front must be at least twice the required by a similar streamlined hull (note that variable force fields can reduce back DR to increase front DR), and the effective surface area is increased by the normal streamlining multiplier.  The final cost of the force field is increased by ten.  Streamlined force fields with less than DR 500 will gain one energy level each five minutes, and if the field collapses, the vehicle must immediately begin making HT rolls just as for any vehicle which exceeds its normal maximum speed.  Redundant force field generators are almost a requirement.
