AstarothAstaroth is an axe wielding maniac adapted from Namco's Soul Calibur.

14th level human fighter, chaotic evil

Str 18/00 (see below), Dex 16, Con 18, Int 13, Wis 14, Cha 14, Hit Points 130

Weapon Proficiencies: Punching +1, wrestling +1, spear, short sword, single-weapon style specialization, weapon specialization battle-axe, two-handed style specialization, footman's flail

Non-Weapon Proficiencies: Endurance, blind-fighting, riding (horse), charioteering, gaming, swimming, language (Common), language (Orcish)

Special Abilities: He regenerates 1 hit point per turn, regenerating back from death, like a ring of regeneration.  He also regenerates 1 hit point of damage for each hit point of damage he causes to his opponents (q.v. vampiric ring of regeneration).  Natural Armor Class of 2. +2 bonus to all saving throws. Astaroth is immune to disease, toxins, poisons and aging.  He can comprehend languages at will.

Special Hindrances: He suffers 1d4+1 damage per vial of holy water striking him.

Equipment: battle axe +4 (this axe is so immense it requires at least 18/00 strength to wield with proficiency and does damage as a halberd), girdle of frost giant strength

Background: Long ago, Astaroth was a warlord to be feared. His armies crushed everything in his path and frequently he would take his ax and wade onto the battlefield with his troops, wreaking havoc everywhere he trod. A magical pact with an evil diety replaced his heart with a magical powerstone.  This radically improved his defenses and toughness, but bound his soul to that diety forever.  In the World of Greyhawk setting, Astaroth is a servant of Iuz.

Personality / Motivation: Astaroth serves his evil diety in exchange for immortality.  Priests seeking divine aid will sometimes regret their asking when Astaroth shows up on their doorstep to provide that assistance.

Quotes: "I will cleave you in two, then rip your halves into a dozen tiny pieces."

Powers / Tactics: He loves to bash things into small pieces with his axe.  He is more than just a combat monster, however, and is intelligent and educated in the ways of politics and military leadership and tactics.  More than once, he has lead an army to victory, keeping himself in reserve until his presence on the battlefield is required to ensure victory.

Appearance: Astaroth is an ugly human monstrosity towering at 7' tall. He weighs 350 lbs, virtually all of it muscle.  Even Astaroth does not remember his own age, but he is at least 200 years old.

Campaign Use: Astaroth would make a good arch-nemesis for a team of powerful adventurers.
