Nicholas Roseshaper, the Gardener's Son

As Nicholas will tell the story, his family served the noble house Huyterhausen for six generations before the middle daughter of the current lord decided to go slumming. Nicholas can understand how his foolish brother could be tempted by the strong, noble, and very beautiful young woman. Despite that, Nicholas resents that his brother - and by extension his entire family - was blamed for the girl's selfish and foolish act and now Nicholas and his family are out of work.  Nicholas has turned to adventuring to bring money to his family. His skills make him a natural to join forces with the local rangers and druids, and can help flesh out any adventuring team expecting a wilderness adventure or even contact with nobles.

As a gardener in a noble house, Nicholas learned his gardening skills, but also how to be unobtrusive.  Gardening requires hard study (Knowledge (nature), Survival, Craft (sculpture), Profession (gardener)), a careful eye (Search) and often a lot of back-breaking work (Concentration).  Living in a noble house requires subtlety (Hide, Move Silently, Bluff) and attentiveness (Knowledge (nobility and royalty)).

In a campaign, as an NPC, Nicholas could be hired as a wilderness guide or expert on local flora and fauna. His adventuring career is intended to bring income to his family, so he would be willing to hire on for a flat fee or a share of the treasure. He might also be helpful to any group of "adventuring ruffians" who need tutoring on courtly manners before they must meet the local baron or duke.  As an NPC, Nicholas would continue developing as an Expert, fleshing out the skills he has and taking feats such as Track and Mounted Combat.  As a PC, Nicholas would fill much the same role, but his development might branch into taking some levels as Ranger or Rogue to build on his nature and court skills, respectively.

Nicholas is wiry, from years of hard physical labor, but with the handsome features that come from living in a noble household where he was well fed and taught good grooming skills to better blend into the background.  He keeps his brown hair cut short, and his brown eyes are filled with flecks of bronze.
