Lord's Falcon

Aria Tanstaafaal (2e)

4th level human conjurer, neutral good (patrician kit)

Str 9, Dex 13, Con 15, Int 18, Wis 14, Cha 15, Hit Points 16

Weapon Proficiencies: Dagger

Non-Weapon Proficiencies: Ancient history (Tanstaafaal family), dancing, gaming, ancient language, modern language (common), modern language (select one), local history, reading / writing, religion, spellcraft, swimming

Typical Spells:  1) cantrip, sleep, unseen servant ×2, comprehend languages ×2, detect magic, read magic, 2) mirror image ×2, ESP, glitterdust, melf's acid arrow, darkness 15' r.

Special Abilities:  Because one of her female ancestors dallied too long with a deific being, Aria has inherited the ability to regenerate as a ring of regeneration.  As a member of the Tanstaafaal family and heir to the family position as top wizard, she has all the perquisites of the wizard patrician kit and virtually unlimited access to training and spell books in her family estates.

Special Hindrances:   In addition to the hindrances of the wizard patrician kit, there are many people who do not like the Tanstaafaal family and therefore will target Aria for insults or physical harm.

Equipment:   Large hard covered wagon, large iron-bound chest, spellbook, traveling spellbook, ring of wizardy (a family heirloom that doubles 1st and 2nd level spells), ring of impeccable attire (a common item in her family, the wearer always appears clean and well groomed, tar doesn't stick)

Spellbook: 1st level:   cantrip, comprehend languages, detect magic, find familiar, identify, read magic, sleep, unseen servant, 2nd level: darkness 15' radius, ESP, glitterdust, melf's acid arrow, mirror image, protection from cantrips, 3rd level:  dispel magic, hold person, monster summoning I, sepia snake sigil

Background: Aria comes from a long line of wizards.  She was trained by her father, the 15th in the line.  She is not his oldest child, but he determined that she was the best and the brightest, so she received the sigil ring which grants her stature as the Heir Tanstaafaal.  Whenever someone "very important" (kings, dukes, demigods) asks the Tanstaafaal clan for assistance, Aria is the first person to attend to the request.  (A request comes about two or three times a year. Calling upon the Heir Tanstaafaal is akin to calling upon a king to provide a favor. Many requests require more intelligence and diplomacy than actual magical talent.)  If is not something she can handle (something she is loathe to admit) she will summon her father or one of the other powerful wizards of her family.

Personality / Motivation: Because she is 16th in the line of Tanstaafaal wizards, she is obsessed with always looking her best and leaving a good impression.  She constantly measures herself against the accomplishments of her ancestors (without the perspective of comparing herself against them one at a time instead of all together). She has a great deal of respect for Pendragon and listens to his advice regularly. She tends to treat the other members of the Lord's Falcon like servants even though she considers them her best friends.

Quotes:  "You have no idea how much pressure I'm under."

Powers / Tactics: Although Aria is a talented conjurer and durable wizard, she is not yet a potent fighter. Fortunately, Aria travels with three warriors in the Lord's Falcon.  Typically, Hero will stay close to her and guard her while she offers magical advice and uses her spells appropriately.

Appearance: Aria is human, 5'7" tall, 125 lbs. She has beautiful blond-red hair that hangs to her waist and crystal blue eyes. Her hair is normally braided in one fashion or another.  She seems to know an endless number of ways to manage her hair and clothes and has a good fashion sense. Unfortunately, most of her fashion sense relates to courtly matters; Pendragon and the others are trying to teach her an "adventuring" style.

Campaign Use: She is the team wizard for the Lord's Falcon.  Using The Complete Wizard's Handbook, Aria is the Patrician kit (p. 42) and Brooder personality (p. 53). With experience, success and perspective she will develop into the Counselor personality (p. 54).
